Commissioned by the Israeli Schubertiade’s 20th anniversary season, this arrangement by Gilad Hochman reimagines Schubert’s Erlkönig through the instrumental world of Schubert’s Octet in F major, D.803.
The work marks an artistic journey into Goethe’s ballad and into the extraordinary dramatic imagination of the 18-year-old Schubert. Expanding the piano writing into chamber textures reveals new layers of color, transparency, urgency, and psychological tension in one of Schubert’s most iconic songs.
Instrumentation: Baritone, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn.
Duration: approx. 4 min.
